Few in his generation have had as much influence on the old-time music community as Paul Brown. Being a direct link to influential musicians from previous generations is certainly part of it but Paul’s musical roots go much deeper. He grew up listening to his mother sing old time songs from her childhood in Virginia and Paul soaked them up like a sponge. He began playing banjo at the age of ten and the rest is, well, current events I guess because he’s still going strong.
Terry McMurray is a fine old-time musician. Steeped in the musical traditions of North Carolina and Southern Virginia, she was a founding member of the Old Hollow String Band with Kirk Sutphin and Riley Baugus and together with Paul played in the Toast String Stretchers for 25 years. Terri plays banjo, banjo uke and guitar and is a much sought-after teacher at old time music camps around the country.
Together, Terri and Paul put on a great show loaded with fiddle, banjo, guitar, old time songs, stories and good humor. You can’t beat ’em so what say we join ’em?
